2 серпня 1989 року о 16.18 обрушився фасад Київського Головпоштампу. Під його уламками загинуло 11 людей. Сподіваючись, що під руїнами ще є хтось живий, люди на площі під дощем почали розбирати завал, обдираючи до крові руки. On August 2. 1989 at 4.18 p. m., the facfde of the Kyiv central post office caved in and killed 11 people. With the hope that somebode is still alive under the ruins people on the square started to clean the debris.
